Youth Sewing Classes

All tools required for classes, including sewing machines, are included in your class fees.

 

You may however, if you wish, bring your own sewing machine provided it is in good working order as we will not have time to make adjustments. Any tools you bring should be clearly marked as yours. You are also encouraged to bring a note book and take notes, although some basic notes are usually provided.

IMPORTANT:  Registration and payment for all classes must be made 3 days before classes start to ensure your place.

SEWING MACHINE BASICS

2 Hour Session - $40

This class is for those who have never used a sewing machine or would like to start at the beginning and see if you even like sewing.  

 

You will build your sewing machine knowledge for more confidence with a sewing machine. You will learn sewing machine anatomy, sewing terminology and basic sewing tools. We will cover  thread, needles, and tension as well as bobbin winding, threading, stitch selection and seams.  If time permits we will do a simple project.


Please Note:  This class is included with Sewing Basics 101.

This class or equivalent experience is a prerequisite for most sewing classes (Except sewing basics 101), workshops and Open Access Sewing.

SEWING BASICS 101

4 Week Sessions - $160

NOTE: this class includes the 2 hour Sewing Machine basics class.

You will learn all about the sewing machine and the basics of using a sewing machine.

 

Then it’s time to practice and build on those important skills. You’ll be working with simple patterns to practice cutting, proper pinning, maintaining your seam allowance, proper starting and stopping, seam finishes, zippers and much more!

Supplies to Bring:  3 one meter cuts of coordinating cotton fabric.

Prerequisite: None

SEWING 102

(INTERMEDIATE)

4 Weekly Sessions - $160

This class will furthering your Sewing basic 101 skills.

 

You will learn to take measurements, to select a pattern for your sewing level, to select the correct fabric for your pattern, how to read a commercial pattern, how to cut it out and how to sew it all together using proper seam allowances and techniques.

Supplies to Bring:  A list will be provided at the first class.

Prerequisite: Completed the Sewing Basics 101 class or have equivalent experience.​
